Many FYs do not undertake a foundation job in anaesthetics despite considering it as a potential future career, meaning opportunities can be missed to improve portfolios and recruit to our specialty.

Anaesthetics is becoming an increasingly popular speciality for training applications, and for good reason. Few other specialities offer the training and lifestyle that is enjoyed by anaesthetic trainees and SAS doctors.

Local Anaesthetics is designed for all FY doctors who are considering a career in anaesthetics, and all interest levels are welcomed.

Please see some of out FAQs below

FAQs

I’m not fully set on anaesthetics - can I apply?

Absolutely - we welcome all interest levels to apply. Part of our aim with the programme is to inspire people to love anaesthetics, and subsequently to help you apply. Not everyone will be convinced from the outset, and that’s ok.

What if I learn anaesthetics is not for me?

No problem! We’re glad we could help you to reach that realisation, and you are welcome to leave the programme. We may ask you to fill out a short exit questionnaire to help us develop the programme.

What if my deanery isn’t yet available?

We intend to be a national programme, with many hospitals covered. Please fill out a sign-up form, and we will endeavour to reach your region as soon as we can. In the meantime, you can join the virtual teaching sessions and still ask us all your anaesthetic questions.

I’m an F3, can I apply?

Absolutely, many people have years out before applying to training and we want to help everyone.

I’m interested - how can I apply?

Brilliant!
